"If any of you have the time and interest I'd strongly recommend watching The Rise of the Nazis on beeb iplayer.
The parallels are startling."

The Nazi's took over the Reichstag and refused to allow a general election?

Oh, right.  You don't mean the opposition parties who with the connivance of the speaker decided to pass laws themselves and dictate letters for a lame PM to write to a foreign entity...

"I know, it's almost as if they were trying to gee us up to sorting a deal out, but now that's transparently unlikely, they're more than willing to give us more time.

Weird."

And there was me thinking they had better things to do than wait for us to decide what to do.

It's almost like they really don't want us to leave...

"European Parliament has just voted 544-126 in support of UK being given an article 50 extension should the request be made."

There's a surprise...despite all the rhetoric to the contrary...

RE: Battlestar Galactica Re-Reboot

Ah right, so this could go one of two ways:

1.  The Cylons are an allegory for the deplorables led by Trump
2.  The fleeing survivors are Leave voters looking for intergalactic free trade deals whilst being pursued by the evil EU empire still wanting their £39bn

I wonder which is the more likely?

Well, that was dire yesterday.

Bournemouth thoroughly deserved their win.

"I get daily updates from the FTA and that's the first I've heard of any 'pop ups'. The Government might have only revealed it recently but they would have (should have) consulted with the FTA first."

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/boost-for-hauliers-brexit-preparation-as-multi-million-pound-campaign-launched

Road Haulage Association chief executive Richard Burnett said:

"With only 38 working days to go until we leave the EU, it is essential that information is delivered in a clear and concise way. Traders, haulage operators in particular, simply don’t have time to digest and implement the small print. They need to know, right now, how to get through the next few months. It is imperative that the entire supply chain understands what will be required. This campaign will ensure hauliers get everything they need from traders to get through border customs smoothly, thereby reducing the risk of holdups at ports and ferry terminals."

"Also, it seems the Libs Dems have re-branded themselves the stop Brexit' Party, which could very well be the saving or undoing of the party at the next GE. Hell of a bamble, but their performance at any election would be very revealing, one way of another."

They'll lose Swinson at the next election, she's played right into Sturgeon's Conservative-hating hands.  Not to mention that the Lib Dems already had PPC's in those seats, and has p***ed them off, plus the resignation of the chair of the Liberal Democrat LGBT wing with the arrival of Phillip Lee.

Now as a Conservative supporter I know the hyperbole is not a true reflection of us, but I'm guessing these defectors and Swinson will feel that strength of feeling shortly.

RE: Brexit

Surprised no one's mentioned this:

https://judiciaryni.uk/sites/judiciary/files/decisions/McCord%20%28Raymond%29%2C%20JR83%20and%20Jamie%20Waring%27s%20Applications%20v%20the%20Prime%20Minister%20and%20others.pdf

Omnibus Conclusion [118]

I draw together the various strands of the court’s decision in the following way:
(a) Leave to apply for judicial review is granted in respect of the section 10 Withdrawal Act issue only.
(b) Leave to apply for judicial review is refused on all other grounds.
(c) Within the ambit of (a), the application for judicial review is refused.

We'll see what the Supreme Court thinks, but in the meantime:

I wouldn't rely on the French for anything, the EU wants an extension as it clearly doesn't want us to leave.

"Si, at what point will you stop calling them Conservatives and start calling them what they are becoming, The Brexit Party?"

Probably never, unless you start calling the Lib Dems the Anti-Brexit Party and Labour the Whatever-Flavour-of-Brexit-You-Prefer,We-Have-It Party and the SNP the We-Hate-Those-Westminster-Tories-And-We-Never-Voted-For-Brexit Party.

Brexit is the national priority but as you know, there is more to each party than just this one issue.

"Grumpy Boris is about to get grumpier.

Amber Rudd has quit the cabinet and quit the Conservatives..."

He might, probably because he wanted a Remainer in the cabinet, but Conservatives in general have been waiting patiently for this, it has been obvious from the start this would happen sooner rather than later...

On the plus side:

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/sep/07/tories-extend-lead-over-labour-to-10-despite-chaotic-week

"The Conservatives are up 3 points to 35% of the vote, while the Brexit party is down 3 points to 13%. The Liberal Democrats are up 2 points to 17%, with Labour down 1 point to 25%."
