"My god it's a rambling mess with tiny elements of plot splashed here and there to give the illusion of some kind of narrative. That's not to say it isn't enjoyable in places. "

Haven't read it for years but I remember enjoying it immensely.

Have you tried The Dark Tower series?

I'm still working my way through The Gulag Archipelago, but have slowed down as distracted by watching the whole of The World At War again.  Still, it's amazing to me just how petty and cruel the Soviets were against their own people even in the first couple of chapter where Solzhenitsyn is just describing the various purges that took place and how automatic 10 year sentences were just handed out for the most trivial of reasons, including just knowing someone who knew someone else...

RE: [VIDEO] Boris the not-a-spider

There's definitely something going on here with this drip drip drip of leaks, but I have zero sympathy and you can't pretend not to know if something is against the rules if you're the person dictating the rules be made in the first place.

Ignorance of the law is not a defence, even if they were rules rather than the actual law...

RE: Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard in $68.7B deal

"I suspect it will be like Bethesda, any current games, well under way, will be finished, but they won't release future games, on PlayStation, why would they, they'll want them as an exclusive so ppl buy the console and their games."

Not sure I agree wholly with this.

I think there will be timed exclusives but that's it.  Look at Sony, they've now belatedly realised that the PC market is huge, so not sure Microsoft will cut their nose off to spite their face here - particularly as the gaming pass has no competitor and I suspect that's more important in terms of profit.

Me neither, think the last CoD I played was the original MW and that was when I was in a clan...

"What an irony!

Tonga is one country on the planet that has been largely Covid free (didn't get their first case until last October)... and now has to rely on international aid, which raises concerns about importing Covid alongside that."

Not the first time diseases have been imported into countries/cultures though, so we've been here before but hopefully a bit more knowledgeable these days.

Only problem is, we're human, so someone will take a shortcut through carelessness or just because they're not bothered...

"I sincerely hope that after 2 years it is officially over. I’ve read that a lot of experts say this with Omicron is actually a great thing and that Corona is stopping "

I think what you're saying is that we're at the point we can think about lifting restrictions and trying to get back to 'normal', living with COVID in the same way as we do with flu, etc.

Is that right?

It's not over and even the milder version can cause serious problems for some people, like flu already does.

The other thing to note is that just because we now have a milder Omicron variant doesn't mean all the other variants have vanished.

It should but I see no real understanding from political parties about the data protection principles contained within the GDPR regulations:

RE: [VIDEO] Boris the not-a-spider

It's rather sad how this has played out, but ultimately no one likes hypocrites and what makes it worse is the attempted cover up(s) and the hope that it will all go away.

What is sad is that with a majority so large, the opportunity (like Blair's first term) has been wasted to actually do anything.

I suspect he'll survive until the May elections and then the knives will be out...

Found this, it's for NHS staff so would seem to be the way even if I can't find the specific thing you're looking for:

RE: What are you reading thread

Currently working my way through Anthony Reynold's biography of Japan called A Foreign Place.  Extremely detailed book that covers the band from youth all the way through to their implosion at the height of their success post release of Tin Drum.

Planning to move onto the first volume of the Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.  Always wanted to read these books at some point, especially after reading Gulag: A History of the Soviet Camps (Anne Applebaum), and moving into a new house appears to have given me more time to read...

Completed Guardians of the Galaxy so back finishing off Cyberpunk 2077.  Almost completed all the side content before I move into the final chapter(s) as I've hit the 'do you want to continue or finish or side stuff' message...
