[VIDEO] Lo Celso tackle

Robee J Shepherd (undefined) posted this on Saturday, 22nd February 2020, 21:57

This is interesting:

Red card or not red card?

I'm not sure Lo Celso does anything wrong, he's looking at the ball, he's going to play the ball but not well balanced, Cesar Azpilicueta flies in and arrives underneath his foot. I don't think it's humanly possible to react to that any quicker than Lo Celso does?

And he clearly is reacting to it trying to keep his weight on his toe very soon after.

Hmmmm.
Not sure how that's anything other than a red card.
In fact, an absolute f***in' disgrace and another embarrassing VAR decision. .

This match was on in the Fanzone before we went in to the Saints match, they said the decisions was based on the fact there was "nowhere else for his foot to go".

Which I can sort of understand, but accidental or not, could have been nasty, and even with no malicious intent, it was dangerous.

Before VAR the ref and team may not have seen the incident so you could see why one week it's a red, the next a yellow, the next nothing, but VAR "should" mean it's the same, but I guess they can interpret the action, and how the players react after.

A BT Sports guy was talking to fans while match was on, and was near us, when this happened, I think he summed it up quite well saying it's the inconsistency that's annoying ppl, not just this decision, but a lot of them.

Hopefully we'll get there with VAR sooner, rather than later, and it will be a "natural" part of the game like it is with rugby.

I'm a gooner, he's a spurs player, with the manager I hate most in the world, I'd really love nothing more than for this to be an outrageous straight red with a harsh post-match punishment. :)

Yes, it could have been nasty, but Azpilicueta arrives under his foot which is (pardon the pun) less than a foot off the ground at it's highest point. You wouldn't see this as dangerous in any other situation. It's not remotely like sliding in with studs showing, or stamping.

First time I've seen it though heard them wobbling on about it on the radio.
Have to disagree Rob, definite red as in that situation despite the confusion of legs I can't see a stamp as going for the ball.

I think, that's what makes it a grey area, it wasn't a stamp, if it had been a deliberate stamp, then yes, straight red, no question, but as the ref decided, there was nowhere else for his foot to go. When I first saw it, we all thought definite red.

I totally see it as a stamp.
Presumably the do too now and say they got the decision wrong.
Crazy decision and how anyone can watch it and think it's not a red is amazing to me.
